When it comes to sustainability, we always go the extra mile

Sustainability is a very important concept in our business. As market leader, we set the bar higher than the existing standards when it comes to environment and community. Being a professional partner, naturally we have several indispensable certifications. For management, we have the certifications ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 9001 (quality management systems). Our products meet the requirements of sustainable cultivation. We have the product certification of 'Milieukeur', a Dutch certification mark for products and services that have less impact on the environment. Our quality standards have also been registered with the Dutch counsel of tree nurseries (Raad voor de Boomkwekerij) and our products are subject to the voluntary examination of the Nak-T, a Dutch quality service for horticulture (warranty of plant material quality, health and species authenticity). Where many nurseries reduce their sustainability after achieving the obligatory certifications, Darthuizer goes the extra mile. Through various adjustments in our company, we reduce the impact we have on the environment. For example our own lorries with Euro 5 standard, our steel barrels - instead of wooden ones - and our FSC-stationary.

Darthuizer also strives to meet the requirements for ISO 26000.

Sustainable grow

When breeding the plants, we use a biodegradable pot, made of natural materials. More and more professional users demand plants that have been bred in a biopot. It has many benefits:
- They grow faster, the plants grow thicker rapidly and the losses are considerably smaller.
- It saves cost in the areas of labour and environment.
- No more collecting and disposing of pots.
- The plant no longer has to be removed from the pot; the roots will grow under the pot.
- Time saving.
- No unnecessary damage to the plant.

When cultivating, we use Bark. These are small, environmentally friendly wood chips that cover the soil in the containers.

This way weed does not stand a chance. So after planting, Bark contributes to an improved soil structure.
